Region/datacenter: Cleura OpenStack Cloud on KNA1 region (Karlskrona, Sweden)
Maintenance window starts: 2022-05-02 08:00 CEST
Maintenance window ends: 2022-05-06 17:00 CEST
Maintenance Scope: OpenStack upgrade Victoria → Xena, Ceph storage maintenance.

Throughout the maintenance window, a number of improvements will be implemented - from functionality to security alignment. The major part of the scope is an OpenStack upgrade from Victoria to Xena, which will add new functionality to OpenStack services, covering more internal communications (like live migrations or VNC consoles) with reliable encryption algorithms, but also address a list of known bugs. Ceph cluster version upgrades would also take place.
Maintenance of the RaaS web interface and associated Kubernetes API endpoint.

There will, in parallel, be work security-wise to further increase protection and to address vulnerabilities. Furthermore, there will be improvements to operations automation and those improvements will allow high flexibility for us to operate the cloud more seamlessly, pinpointing time frames that could potentially involve a slightly higher risk of minor disruption.

Our ambition is to carry out the majority of the maintenance window with little to no impact on running services. All infrastructure services will be restarted in a controlled and timely manner, in order for proper security patching.

Expected customer impact:

- You may experience API issues or unavailability during resource creation or updating already created ones. We recommended postponing operations with OpenStack API 3th of May to minimize the risk of impact.
- During Ceph maintenance, no impact on performance or data availability is to be expected.
- This maintenance will minimize the impact on customers' virtual machines and cloud resources reachability while upgrading the network nodes. Nevertheless, you might experience reachability issues that may last up to 5 minutes while connecting through L3 routers. We've planned a network stack upgrade on 4th and 5th of May from 17:00 to 21:00 CET, so connection issues may occur during this timeframe.
- After Maintenance Window will be finished, you will need to perform a reboot of VMs when convenient to restore VNC console functionality. Alternatively, you may reach us to live-migrate VMs between computes, which will also restore VNC. This step is required to fully switch to encryption of all VNC traffic. It is safe to run VMs even without reboot but the VNC console will be non-functional.
- After the OpenStack upgrade to Xena, The customer needs to make sure their client is using TLS1.2 and TLS1.3 to communicate with endpoints on the region.
- After the OpenStack upgrade to Xena, Block storage (Cinder) API v2 is deprecated on Xena, The customer needs to make sure their client is using v3 instead v2 for Cinder API.
